Dr. Susan Moeller supervised this ICMPA research study. Prof. Moeller is Director of the International Center for Media and the Public Agenda (ICMPA) and Professor of Media and International Affairs at the Merrill College and the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Moeller co-founded the Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change in Austria. She has taught at Brandeis and Princeton, was a Fulbright professor in Pakistan and Thailand, and was a fellow at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center and at the Belfer Center at the Kennedy School.

Moeller’s latest book is Packaging Terrorism: Co-opting the News for Politics and Profit. Other books include Compassion Fatigue: How the Media Sell Disease, Famine, War and Death and Shooting War: Photography and the American Experience of Combat. Moeller regularly blogs for and for the World Bank.  Moeller received her AM and PhD from Harvard and her BA from Yale. In 2008, she was named a Carnegie Scholar as well as a Teacher of the Year by the State of Maryland Board of Regents. more information

Jennifer Memmolo is a senior journalism major with a concentration in American Studies. Previously, Jennifer interned for The New York Post, Discovery Communications, Edison Wetlands Association, and Honest Tea Inc., serving in various communications-based roles. She was an editor for College Prowler’s student guide to the University of Maryland in 2009. On campus, Jennifer is the co-founder of the Idiot Girls’ Field Hockey League. She can be heard on airwaves around the world as a correspondent for Feature Story News, a global broadcast wire service based in Washington, D.C.  She hopes to pursue a career in media literacy and international affairs. Erin Spiegel is a senior journalism major with a concentration in government and politics and a minor in Israel studies. Previously, Erin interned in Washington, D.C. and in the Middle East for news outlets and organizations such as The Washington Times, the Harry Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace and The Raben Group. She has also held numerous leadership positions at the University of Maryland, College Park, including serving as the 2009-2010 Student Government Association Deputy Press Secretary and Managing Editor for the Mitzpeh, a campus newspaper targeted at the Jewish community.
